I tried everything. Multiple coaches. Every casebook I could find. I spent serious money — because I believed that if this was a skill that could be learned, I was going to learn it.
I came from a non-traditional background — no MBA, no target school. But I refused to let that define my ceiling. What I discovered along the way was that the real problem wasn't talent or pedigree. It was the noise — conflicting advice, fragmented resources, coaches contradicting each other — with no single, clear system to follow.
Then I joined McKinsey. And the moment I moved to the other side of the table — conducting interviews, seeing the actual assessment rubric, training as an official McKinsey interviewer — everything became clear. The gap between candidates who got offers and those who didn't was almost never talent. It was almost always preparation. Specifically, the absence of a structured, calibrated system built around what interviewers actually evaluate.
I became obsessed about reconstructing that system. And McKinsey noticed.
